hmmmm, a candle is relatively simple, you light it— it melts
the wick is a timer, the wax is the case.
For minutes it provides all we need
a light source, comfort, warmth and a scene
but have you ever wondered what would happen if it suddenly awoke?
and so, just like that, in a sudden blaze— the candle blinked
it saw the modern world and became confused
"if humans have all this light, why do they still need me?"
it wandered and wandered and came across a church
saw the significance placed on its brethren and proclaimed
"Wow this rocks!"
it skipped on happily and fell into a sewer
there it encountered the occult and their activities at night, then proclaimed
"Urgh, this sucks"
it waddled away, emerging at a fancy restaurant, seeing the couples staring at each other
saw itself used as a prop to set the mood and proclaimed
"Damn, that's cringe"
it shivered and flitted along a dark path, lighting up the way for everything to follow
it stopped at an old house, the one it began from
looking through the window, a sick old man who grumbled in a polished tone
"where've you been all night? I have not enough time to keep chasing you"
the candle remembered why it blinked, looked down at itself— already turning to mush
"I'm a light humans follow, but how do i know where to go?"
"Where should i lead them to? and when should i?"
the old man smiled and placed it on a tabletop
"You don't need to do anything; it's not your job to voyage," said the old man
"For when the time is right, they'll find you themselves"
"And when they do, they'll start to wonder........ if you were ever a candle at all"
the old man closed his eyes, the candle melted out of sight
the light remained on, a miracle perhaps?
or maybe it'll always be on till you decide to stop reading.
